THE TRUTH ABOUT PROTEIN
I figured I’d put a little information out about plant-based protein. Whether you are transitioning to a plant-based or vegan diet, or simply want to add more plant-based proteins into your diet, here’s some information for you!
Although many athletes focus on protein intake, it is scientifically proven that, when done correctly, a high-carbohydrate, low-fat, and vitamin and mineral-rich, plant-based diet may be optimal for sports performance. While the recommended amount of protein consumption is 50 grams per day, the average American consumes around 112 grams of protein per day. And although it may come as a shock to some, excess protein is actually stored as fat, not muscle.
High protein diets can contain high levels of saturated fats, which can stress kidneys.
Compared to animal protein, plant protein is…
Lower in saturated fat
Contains little to no cholesterol
Higher in antioxidants
Higher in fiber
